BiographyJames Montford explores his African American and Native American roots through his works using many forms of art from painting, digital photography to performance. In a 2004 performance at Niagra Universtity's Castellani Art Museum Montford Recruited students from Niagara University media and general education studies and asked them to document the public’s reaction to his “costumed” presence in neighboring communities. On some days he posed, holding a mug of cigars in non-traditional Native American headdress in front of various shops; on other days, he mimiced a black lawn jockey. The results of the student research – text from interviews and large format ink jet digital photography – formed the content of the show.

Cencored artist shit, Got thrown out of a prestigious on line gallery after getting too hig and writing the owner he had better sell me work. I had two girlfriends and a drug habit to support. He did not find it amusing and was kicked out the next day. Have a lot for African Americans at my site but many are crack dealers.Life near the edge, come visit. TOX

Welcome! Would have loved to see performance as Kaw-Liga (Hank William's drug store Indian)...also as lawn jockey! A friend of mine years ago sneaked around at night and painted all the neighborhood 'jockeys' pink, this was a long time ago and I don't think anyone 'got it'.
