Interests and Personality

BiographyLeft school with few qualifications as a result of being dyslexic in the days when no-one knew about dyslexia. Returned to education via the OU, and to art via the Open College of the Arts. The end result is an honours degree in Fine Art - Painting from Gray's School of Art (Robert Gordon's University). I also have an honours degree in Science and Environmental Technology from the University of Paisley. I am currently devoting a lot of time to my Artist at Work website http://artist-at-work.co.uk and learning new skills in web design.
InterestsPainting! I also have two dogs and a cat and I am a geocacher (I roam the country with a GPS receiver looking for hidden tupperware boxes! It keeps my husband happy).
MusicUsually I listen to whatever my kids have stuck onto my mp3 player, and sing along, getting all the words wrong. While working at the computer I listen to the complete works of Counting Crows.
FilmsThe Matrix, Blade Runner and other sci-fi. The Lord of the Rings trilogy and good fantasy. Just saw "The Cell" for the first time - such imagery! Reminds me of another great arty file I love - Mirrormask.
TelevisionThanks to Virgin 1 I am currently watching tons of Star Trek spin offs. Loved Lost when it wasn't on satellite. Now watching Heroes and The Riches. Sadly I also have a soft spot for House, Eastenders and Holby City. No reality TV though - real life takes place in the real world, where you interact properly and not by phoning a machine.
BooksAnything by Clive Barker, especially if it is illustrated. Try Abarat. I also read a lot of Juliet Marriller when the mood takes me. Recently I have been reading a lot of nonfiction technology and philosophy stuff (esp Paul Virilio) and some cyperpunk (esp William Gibson) for painting inspiration. I have tons of art books and constantly add to them. As a kid my favourite was an illustrated (i.e. line drawings) version of Peter Pan.
HeroesTo many to mention, but include female artists who have moved the goalposts for those following after (e.g. Frida Kahlo)
