An exploration of the ambiguous relationship between the isolated body and space
“My body was Braille
for the creeping influences:
dawn suns groped over my head
and cooled at my feet,
through my fabrics and skins
the seeps of winter
digested me,
the illiterate roots
pondered and died
in the cavings
of stomach and sockets.”
[Heaney, 1966-1987, Bog Queen]
An exploration of the ambiguous relationship between the isolated body and space, (examining the bodies natural state) moreover the relationship and association it has with its immediate environment. In a sense I will illustrate an unconventional portrait, exposing the abrasive realities of life, alienation, loneliness, boredom, passion and isolation, depicting the imminent human connection and the silent dialogue between the Artwork and the viewer.
Through a series of paintings I intend to indicate a move back towards a fundamental contact between art and real life, induced by the work of Lucian Freud, along with an emerging fascination of the submissive body incarcerated through a mixture of obsession and paint; indicating an intense relationship linking the artist with the subject. Furthermore, revealing the natural correlation between the negative and positive contours of the body.
Similarly to Stanley Spencer and Francis Gruber, Lucian Freud introduces painterly documents that depict the resignation of human alienation. Likewise Jenny Saville isolates the human form both literally and metaphorically; the large fleshy figures engulf the environment leaving them imprisoned within a rectangle frame.
In addition to using paint as the medium of expression I am in the process of creating several abstract sculptures. the construction of these sculptures; they will consist of casting various parts of the figure, arranging each section with anatomical accuracy in order to exhibit the body in a submissive state.

Susuie, one of the friends listed at your site, is ill. A get well letter would do her heart good and cheer her up a bit. We live in a world that does not apriciate art. We must care for eachother. So leave a post on her board if you have time. L John TOX
