Interests and Personality

BiographyI produce abstract paintings using acrylics on canvas. Bright, happy colours that appear almost child-like at first glance. My paintings are about shapes and colours and the way they relate to each other; the action takes place at the point at which they meet, the edge so to speak. I have no formal training as an artist beyond reading Henry Miller's "The Angel Is My Watermark", but have instead super-imposed all that I have learnt as a musician on my painting (song-structure, instrumentation, etc... ). I believe this gives my work a freshness, as it isn't bogged down by convention and has a tremendous freedom of style. I mainly concern myself with the Abstract, but also incorporate elements of Opart into my work. I find these mediums liberating and satisfying on a personal level because they involve the viewer, indeed they depend upon the audience taking an active role in their appreciation of the painting; it becomes a more involving and satisfying experience for all concerned.

Wow Gustave, I am so flattered with your compliments. I am so used to being the one getting inspired by other artists here, I didn't realize I was inspiring anyone. Thank you so much. Keep in touch and let me know when you add any new pieces. ~Marianne

I enjoyed your new piece Gustav. I love all the lines and colors. Incidentally, one of my brothers is deaf. :)

Hi Gustav, I thought you might be interested in seeing some of my new abstracts in my New Work gallery. I think the one I was talking about in my earlier message must have been "Free Will". That is also in my New Work gallery. I hope you are doing well. I'm going to take a minute to check out your work again. Have a good weekend. ~Marianne

Robbie

I think you are doing beautiful work. As a musician you may find it interesting to know that the entire spectrum of visible light is only one octave of frequency, yet a full orchestra ranges eight octaves and more. Best regards, Robbie. Also, what you say about involving the viewer in art is the basis of my philosophy about art as communication. Best regards, Robbie.
