| Biography | I am a tribal citizen of the Cherokee Nation in Oklahoma. I live in the Fairdield indian community northeast of Stilwell in the Trail of Tears District (Adair County. I have been creating contemporary Cherokee Basketry since 1991. I learned from Shawna Morton-Cain. In 2006 I took a class in traditional Cherokee coiled pottery from master potter Anna Sixkiller-Mitchell. Pottery is something I only dabble in as of now, and do onl,y for my own enjoyment, but I am getting better at it, and one of these days I will have a piece that I am confident enough to enter into a show. |
| Interests | My interest is all things traditional Cherokee. I like traditional art, but I also like contemporary art. I go to Stomp Dances, hog frys...anything to be around my people. |
| Music | I like all music, except country and gospel. My favorite band is Poison. My favorite all time vocalist is Aretha Franklin and Natalie Cole, so that tells you how diverse my musical interests are. |
| Films | My favorite movie is called "Mists of Avalon" with Ajelica Houston. My favorite actresses are Stockard Channing, Sally Fields and Sandra Bullock |
| Television | this will sound funny, but my favorite all time TV show is "The Golden Girls". |
| Books | My favorite book is called "In Plain Sight: Evidence of Pre-Columbian Contact in the Americas" by Gloria Farley. She was a local artist from Heavener, OK who is credited for discovering the famous "Heavener Runestone" and traveled all over the Soutwestern United States looking at petroglyphs and ancient rock graffiti and dedicated her life to studying it. |
| Heroes | My hero is Shawna Morton Cain. She was a teacher of mine in high school who influenced my life greater in ways that I cannot explain. She taught me to be myself, and not worry about what others think. She also sparked an interest in the traditional arts of my ancestors. I owe her alot. |
