Interests and Personality
| Biography | I am a New Zealand Artist of Maori and Celtic descent, residing in the Doubtless Bay area of Northland, NZ. I paint a wide variety of subjects, mostly with oil or acrylic on canvas.
I began making marks with colour from age 3 or 4 onwards, usually with wax crayon or pastel on paper provided by my mother who mostly encouraged me to explore abstract - colour and shapes non figuratively.
Through out my school years I found art to be more of a lesson in frustration and preferred painting at home in my own time and space.
I first got aquainted and quickly 'hooked' on oil colours at age 12, when my sister 5 yrs older than me returned home from Summer Art School full of ideas and enthusiasm to impart to me. I chose not to pursue any formal education in fine art in the ensuing years as I always knew I would be 'driven' to paint whether I like it or not - so am to this day essentially a self taught Artist, influenced by my surroundings and life experiences. |
| Interests | horse riding, cats, painting, gardening. |
| Music | I love all types of music - Sinatra, Sam Cooke, Joe Cocker, Van Morrison, Bob Marley and Jimmy Cliff are just a few of my favorite singers from the old school. |
| Films | Bella Mafia, anything with Keanu Reeves (such a smoothie) or Ben Stiller (a real funny guy) in it. Stephen King movies keep me on the edge of my seat too which I thoroughly enjoy. |
| Television | Animal Planet and National Geographic documentary programmes on Sky TV. Desperate Housewives for a good ol giggle and NZ made 'Outrageous Fortunes'. |
| Books | non fiction - anything to do with health, gardening and art. Fiction - Stephen King thrillers, Daphne du Maurier, John Steinbeck and Bryce Courtney novels. |
| Heroes | German painter Franz Marc(1880-1916)for his expressive, colourful tributes to animals in Art, Suzanne Valedon a french female painter, femminist Germaine Greer, Mother Theresa and heaps more, but on a day to day basis my long suffering, darling husband and father to my 2 youngest kids. |

A note to all my friends. I'm heading to the US, first week in February to work up and around Utah, Idaho and Wyoming for 3 mths so I'll most likely be away from here unless I can get online. It's pretty exciting and I hope to gather loads of new material and inspiration for future artwork. Cheers to all for your encouraging comments on my paintings, past, present and future. See yall soon. Dianne

Hi Dianne, Thanks for stopping by. I appreciate your comment. Good to hear you are getting back to work. I need to get into my studio as well. I was away for a couple of weeks celebrating our Thanksgiving Holiday with family up north. I could only paint in my head, but now I just need to get my ideas onto the canvas. Keep me posted on your new work. ~Marianne

Susuie, one of the friends listed at your site, is ill. A get well letter would do her heart good and cheer her up a bit. We live in a world that does not apriciate art. We must care for eachother. So leave a post on her board if you have time. L John TOX

Hi "abitofanartist".Thanks for your comment. Probably there are quite wide differences regarding the dimensions of the "iced world" inside different people - however it's a quantitative difference only; Therefore Kafka - as in most cases - is right...Kobi
