BiographyIn 1985, Formica was discovered by the late artist agent, Ola Jones, and he received his first solo exhibit in 1987 in Pottstown, PA. Upon her discovery, Jones immediately encouraged Formica to trade in his syringes for brushes. Twenty-two years later, he is still drug-free, and his paintings have since been exhibited in more than twenty-five international solo and group shows; published in Art Now, Art Matters, The Pew Trust, and American History Magazine; collected by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, President Jimmy Carter, and Donald Trump; and recently honored by the Benjamin Franklin Tercentenary commission and placed in the official Ben Franklin Tercentenary exhibit catalogue, In Search of a Better World (Yale University Press).

Funny. I have told people, when I lived in Phoenix, the distance from Phoenix to Pittsburgh was less than from Pittsburgh to Philadelphia. You get it. Life is OK but I am trying to stay off drugs but it is difficult when the dealers are in your bar or close enough to deliver. It is funny but it does show you a different side of life that others only see in the movies. Little story. My girlfriend and her late husband used to sling heroin. Eggy called up and ask if he could use their scales for some reefer. He didn’t tell them he had stollen the drugs from the Fiello Brothers. While they wee wieghing the dope out the Fiellos riddled it with machine guns. When they got of the floor Eggy said “Do you think we could speed this up?” Eggy eventually got a murder rap, got punked out in the joint and now is a woman. This is city life in the raw. Give you a different perspective. I cannot really shoot country landscapes. It is a foreign territory to me. Good luck with your images bud. TOX
