Interests and Personality

BiographyCharlie Phillips was born in Manchester in 1986. In Feb 2008 Phillips held his debut exhibition with contemporary Chinese artist and partner Chiu Kim Lee,Phillips’s work is a personal reaction to life and modern society. He represents the human condition in a notion that is easily manipulated and fragile. Morality and humanity play a large part of the concept. We can be loved, hated, even hurt or killed. The often tortured style of his work is representational of the acute anxiety and depression Phillips has suffered from since early adolescence. Phillips is strongly influenced by eastern popular culture His work is reminiscent to that of contemporary Japanese horror movies and is influenced by Japanese anime, Manga, culture and tradition. This is a fascination that has been with him since child hood and continues to influence his art practice. His work is considered both beautiful and controversial as the gallery banned selected works from his most resent exhibition.
Interestsanime, manga, far eastern cinema
