Interests and Personality

BiographyI've been working on The Ocean Series for thirty years. The Ocean Series is a Remodernist response to the color-field paintings of Mark Rothko. The central theme in my painting is the search for stillness, the sort of profound and lucid calm that is the result of meditation or contemplation; another main theme is the relationship between humans, the ocean, and the atmosphere. The intent of my work is to create an ambiance where the spiritual dimension of this relationship can be experienced. Once in a while a commercial gallery will invite me to do an exhibition. Solos include: Sarah Rentschler Gallery, NYC, NY, USA, 1980 Samadhi Gallery, San Francisco, CA, USA 1982 Galleria Expressiva, San Jose, COSTA RICA, 1987 Norro Gruppen Konstgallerie, Stockholm, SWEDEN, 1991 Hodgell Gallery, Sarasota, FL, USA, 1994 Sekanina Contemporary Arts, Ferrara, ITALY, 2003 Elevator Gallery, Venice Beach (LA) California, 2005.

I like the simple blending of colors you achieve with just enough detail to make it a scene rather than purely abstract. Please visit my profile when you can, Robbie.

Collin, I've also lived in 6 other USA States (New York, Texas, California, Hawaii, Washington, and Oregon) and 6 other countries (Bahamas, Jamaica, St. Bart, Costa Rica, Mauritius, and Sweden). I'll be moving again - I'm nomadic. You might be interested to see the bottom 2 rows of paintings on my web page www.theoceanseries.com/gallery1.html - those were all painted in a doomed 1951 Paul Rudolph beach house (since demolished and replaced by a horrible McMansion) on Siesta Key. Thanks for looking.

Beautiful Work! I like the way you have captured the many shades of color that you see while watching the sun rise and set over water! Best Wishes, Deborah

I think you have achieved the calmness! Very relaxing...I love the ocean too.

My favorite is "Au Dela POSTER". I like the way the waves at the bottom of the painting comes in at an angle which gives a contrasting texture to the horizontal flat lines on top. I love the colors very relaxing.
