You wanted a critique? OK you have one. Your portraits are excellent, good line along with mass. The boring lectures are well done but some lack focus. Some just look like several studies on one page. If you are going to photograph you need to shoot more and more. You need practice. Some stand just on dramatics and that is not a basis for a good image. Shoot everything. If you cannot find a good image in your back yard you will never find one. Think in terms of mass more than anything, line will come with it. You have talent but you need to work at it more. As a freshman the first semester they made you shoot with a $3 plastic camera to show you that an image is not dependent upon expensive equipment. It was a very good lesson. I also recommend gesture drawings. Timed, five to ten minutes, india ink on news print. Teaches you to trust your body movements and breaks down what is really important in an image. Was taught the zone system of Ensel Adams and had to unlearn that before I could become the photographer I am. I always recommend viewing the photos of Minor White. Hope this is a help to you in your growth as an artist. You have what it takes but you must work, work, work at it. Nice to meet you. John Newbern Toxey johntoxey@comcast.net will email you some more images if you like.
