Interests and Personality

BiographyHello, I am originally from Genoa, Italy, and I have been living in the UK for the last nine years. I developed a strong interest in the arts from an early age, my Mum Giulia passed onto me the passion for photography. I studied modern languages and did my Foundation degree in photography in Florence. I moved to the UK and studied Design Studies at the University of Salford, in my gap year I worked at an art gallery in London and then I completed my studies at The London College of Fashion, (MA-Fashion Studies). I worked at Laura Ashley (at the company textile archives), and at the Michael Wilson Centre for Photography in London. Then in 2004 I decided to set up my own creative business, MeanMagenta.com. The last three years have been very exciting, a great learning experience, a lot of hard work that is finally starting to pay off!
InterestsHistory of Art, Photography and Design, collecting fashion plates, drawing, theatre, ballet, classical music, the outdoors, interior design, cycling, gazing at the clouds, vintage fashion, listen to the radio while drawing, supporting charities that help nature and the environment, alternative therapies, tennis
MusicMost classical music, some jazz, soundtracks from movies, music halls songs, and Italian pop and easy listening from the 70s/80s
FilmsRoom with a View, (I think I have seen it at least 12 times!),Brief Encounter, Rebecca, and all those great Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers movies
TelevisionI have not watched television in the last three years, duh! Far too busy with my creative business, I prefer the Internet anyway! I only miss television when the Wimbledon tennis tournament is on!
BooksDeath in Venice, by Thomas Mann
HeroesMy Mum, Giulia De Giovanni, great photographer and extraordinary dressmaker-stylist! Marco Polo, I do envy the life he had! Leonardo da Vinci!!! Mata Hari, whether she was or not a spy, she was a born fighter and a survivor

MEANMAGENTA

Hello to all my Friends! I am sorry I have not been in touch for a while, it has been a pretty tough period for me, too many problems to sort out at the same time, too much pressure and too little time. I hope you all had a great xmas and many thanks to Tox for the message, (and by the way, you can call me by my name, Paola, MeanMagenta is only my business name). I do hope all is well now for Susie! I wish you all a wonderful, creative and successful 2008! All the best, Paola

Tox

Hey should I call you Mean or Magenta? Susie, one of the friends listed at your site, is ill. A get well letter would do her heart good and cheer her up a bit. We live in a world that does not apriciate art. We must care for eachother. So leave a post on her board if you have time. Put a smile on her face when she gets home from the hospital. L John TOX

Paola, thank you so much. Your comments are very helpful indeed. I appreciate you taking the time to look through my work and give me your suggestions for my show. I am going to have a great time planning it. I'll keep you posted. By the way, Cotton Pickin' is is a show right now, as is one of my son's paintings. We went to the opening reception today. Check out my new gallery "Jack and His Art". ~Mare

Hi! Listen, I have about 6 months to prepare for my first solo show, and I was hoping you could assist me. I will need to have at least 30 paintings to display. If you could, with as much honesty as possible, please name 2 of my completed pieces that you feel I should definitely show. Also, please share 3 things with me, based on my current work, (remember be honest), that you would recommend to me for improving my art in general. I am fine if you post this on my public board because it may be interesting to others. The feedback from other artist on this website is very valuable to me. Thanks! ~Marianne
