Interests and Personality

BiographyBorn at Baltasound, Shetland in 1948. Lifelong love of, and interest in, the sea and all things nautical. Sold first oil painting at 13 years of age. It still hangs in an office in Lerwick! Spent two years at Grays School of Art, Aberdeen, and later went to Faculty of Law, Aberdeen University, but academic life wasn't really the thing! Much more interested in extra-curricular activities. Had a varied career since, always with the art as a hobby and interest. Unemployment 3 years ago forced a change in mindset, and now full-time artist.
InterestsThe sea, oil painting, playing classical guitar (badly!)
MusicClassical (Radio 3 a constant companion!)
FilmsNot a special interest of mine
TelevisionDon't get me started! Detest how-to programmes, so-called "reality" programmes and soaps. That doesn't leave a lot, does it?
BooksAnything well-written
HeroesNeither sycophantic nor iconoclastic!

Next planned exhibition is scheduled for January 2008 at the Creel Inn, Catterline, south of Stonehaven in Scotland.

Hello. I just wanted to mention that your paintings are very pretty. I love the ocean. The ocean is actually what inspired me to become an artist. Don't be a stranger!

Nice ART Work Taitgallery.

quite something with the tidal surge lately! Funny apres hurricane I found myself in the Suffolk Marsh...a lovely old broad handed me a pamphlet about the 1954?6? flood. It is all about the ebb and flow...ebb and flow...and what the moon is doing. I ask you to be 'friend' here on pop and will x you out if I have no response...pity...is wasted on...

Stunning work! You can smell the salt spray through the monitor.....Great!

Very nice work.

Hi Jim, I checked out your new works. Very nice. The boats are just gorgeous. And yes, I am interested in surrealism, I would like to do more surrealism but am still working on increasing my learning curve. I often think to much and it gets in the way of painting sometimes, but I'll get there. Thanks for stopping by. ~Marianne
